The Design

The design clothes the walls, fence and outhouse in square trellis. This disguises these unsightly elements, while giving the garden a sense of unity and enclosure. Rather than seeing the neighbour`s houses crowing in, ones eyes are kept within the garden. Once the trellis is clothed in climbers, this effect will only get stronger.

The use of a circular lawn and semi circular patio provides a strong base structure. The view from the dining room window is that of a stylish garden, augmented with careful planting for year round interest. This includes evergreen ferns and golden variegated grasses. To enhance the feeling of quite calm, the plan includes using candles in the evening picking out the curve of the lawn with lanterns on tall spikes.

The outhouse was altered to provide access for the wheelie bin, thus the bin has disappeared from view, replaced with intriguing garden gates. The best answers to design problems are simple ones, the skill is putting the elements together in such a way that both house and garden are enhanced.
